Maui TechOhana is a program organized by a partnership
between the Maui
Economic Development Board, Inc., and the
Maui Office of the Hawaii
Small Business Development Network.
The meetings provide an informal networking opportunity
open to anyone interested in Maui's technology
industry. Events include a short presentation
on a relevant topic in business or technology,
followed by the opportunity to talk with others
with similar professional interests.
The date and speaker for the next TechOhana are still being determined.
On Wednesday, May 6, Ian Fisher presented from Kite For Sail, talking about the benefits of kite sail technology. Wind energy is free and readily available around the state of Hawaii. Using kite sail is cost effective compared to other conventional sail options. Today, a hand full of emerging companies are developing this approach to assist water transportation. Our strong and consistent trade winds offer an ideal environment to implement kite sail technology for commercial fishing, inter-island transportation, transpacific barge, and freighter and tanker operations.
